Recreation in Lorraine
If sports and recreation is your thing, then Lorraine really shines due to the large variety of activities available. There are three sports that the terrain of Lorraine is ideally suited to - walking, riding and mountain biking (there are though of course many others sports available).

First the breathtaking Vosges mountain range - a dense network of signposted footpaths provides a safe and easy way of getting into a stunning natural environment full of flowers (such as lilies, orchids, digitalis, arnica and sundew) and wildlife (such as deer, wild boar, water fowl, mountain goat, lynx, capercaillie and eagleowls).

Walkers, horse riders and mountain bike fans will all love these specially-designed paths. All in all, Lorraine’s forests contain 4,500 kilometres of footpaths, 950 kilometres of mountain bike trails and 850 kilometres of bridlepaths!

Parents will be happy to know that there are also plenty of attractions for kids to enjoy if you are looking for a family outing. A few of the more uncommon attractions include the rail-bikes known as the “draisine” or “vélorail” in Magnières and Vigy, a must if you’re visiting the Mortagne Valley. How about a wagon ride in Meuse or an outing (with a guide), accompanied by a donkey or llama in the Vosges mountains?

The Abreschviller railway and the train from Vigy to Hombourg-Budange in the Canner Valley are another two ways of enjoying the depths of the forest in Lorraine’s countryside with your family.

And of course there are the excellent amusement and theme parks. Amnéville also has a wonderful Zoo and a superb Aquarium and the tropical aquarium in Nancy’s Muséum-Aquarium gives a wonderful view into the mysteries of the underwater world.
